Operculectomy

The surgical removal of the mucosal flap partially or completely covering an unerupted tooth.

If the flap of gum overlying the wisdom tooth (theoperculum) is infected / inflamed (pericoronitis), then thiscan be removed by a number of means (‘cold steel’, glacialacetic acid, radio-surgical means, laser or cautery).
